The government will appeal to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order that restricted the plying of battery-run rickshaws on the city streets within three days.
“The government has decided to appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC order. We hope that we would get a positive decision from the Supreme Court to this end,” Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy this evening.
Replying to a question, Azad said the government wants to find a solution through legal procedure whether the battery-run rickshaws can run on the city streets.
On November 19, 2024, the HC ordered the authorities concerned to stop plying of battery-run rickshaws on the streets of Dhaka city within three days.
The court ordered the home secretary, LGRD secretary, inspector general of police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, and authorities of the two city corporations to take necessary measures to execute the order.
On the backdrop of the HC order, battery-run rickshaw drivers staged demonstrations in different parts of Dhaka to press home their 11-point demand including the withdrawal of the HC order banning their vehicle movement in Dhaka.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was present at the press briefing.
